Couvade

Some readers may be interested in the topic simply because it's quite mysterious and gradually becoming common among expectant fathers. If you're in this category, then this is the perfect book you need to read to satisfy your curiosity.

Patrick A. Simon

Is your wife pregnant?

Have you ever heard that you look like someone who is set to deliver soon?

Do you find yourself experiencing morning sickness and you're wondering what the problem is?

Has someone asked how many months you are or did people point to your stomach and ask you if you're expecting a boy or a girl?

Well, most of the pregnancy symptoms along with the bulging belly doesn't imply that you've gone crazy.

It's obvious that you're among the expectant men who may be experiencing a rare health issue known as Couvade Syndrome. Women are commonly seen as the only people who suffer the physical and psychological effects of pregnancy. Well, women are not actually the only ones being affected by pregnancy because it also affects male partners physiologically and psychologically.

You may not easily find a lot of research on couvade syndrome for several reasons. First, some daddies who may be experiencing the symptoms of the syndrome may not notice them. They may simply assume that this is just normal and in no way related to pregnancy at all. Well, if you've experienced certain changes in your body and you're wondering whether you're having symptoms of the syndrome, this is the right book you should be reading.

Are you already convinced that you're having symptoms of couvade syndrome?

Never mind, you're not alone at all; there is a medical community backing you up.

Reviews

"(...) It is a rather rare phenomenon where men experience pregnancy symptoms along with their significant others. This can range from mood swings to bloating to weight gain. After introducing readers to couvade syndrome, the author provides historical information, the latest research into the disorder, and how to combat it.I am not a man but found myself interested in couvade syndrome. I have never heard the term and wanted to know more. I was shocked to learn it has been around for centuries and I'm just now hearing about it! I am now interested to learn if couvade syndrome could also affect same-sex partnerships. Clearly, the author did well in increasing my interest in the topic. I also quite enjoyed how the book provides so much information and provides reference pages so you know they did their research. In addition, Couvade Syndrome is a good read not just for men who may be experiencing similar symptoms, but for those readers interested in learning more, like me. This book is great as it can also help any soon-to-be dad as there is information on how to deal with stress, anxiety, and gastrointestinal symptoms and P. A. Simon provides tips for any new dad."

"Couvade Syndrome: What Male Sympathetic Pregnancy is & how you can fight it" by P.A. Simon is by far a very informative book on a very untouched topic. I had personally heard of Couvade Syndrome when having a conversation with an old friend whose husband had experienced some symptoms. However, there was little information to understand the subject other then what she told me. This book covers the known history of the Syndrome, cultural differences for rituals associated with the Syndrome and the scientific research about it as well. With information on causes, symptoms and theories about the Syndrome I found everything I was reading to be very informative and satisfying to the curiosity I have towards the matter. The Author further goes onto details on how to deal with the Syndrome as well. Overall, I believe this is definitely a very useful book for all expecting couples!"

"This book by P.A. Simon captures one of the most interesting phenomenons out there.
It perfectly encapsulates ALL things a to be dad may experience outside of his knowledge, during his partner's pregnancy. So glad someone took out the time to write about this, for many who may feel lost. Great book to have, whether you're going to be a daddy or even if you're someone hoping to stumble upon something new & fresh! Kudos to you!"
